50. What Happens When A Baby Is Born In Islam?

Islam has given great attributes on the birth of babies, specially female.

In the pre-Islamic era the Arabs used to bury a baby girl if she was born. It was considered as misfortune and a bad fate to have been blessed with a girl.

After the Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam was born, he gave woman a status in Islam. He erased the dishonour and bad omen status from a girl/woman's life.

In the honour of Woman, Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala named a chapter for her in Quran.

The last words that the Messenger of Allah
salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam  spoke were, “The prayer, the prayer! And fear Allah with regard to those whom your right hands possess.” This was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

What does right hands possess means by? His wife and his kids and his old parents if they are alive.

And Allah Almighty says: “And do not kill your children, fearing poverty; We shall provide sustenance to them as well as to you; indeed killing them is a great mistake.” [Surah Bani Israel, Verse 31]

“For Allah only is the kingship of the heavens and the earth; He creates whatever He wills; He may bestow daughters to whomever He wills, and sons to whomever He wills. Or may mix them, the sons and daughters; and may make barren whomever He wills; indeed He is All Knowing, Able.” [Surah al-Shoora, Verses 49-50]

Narrated Abdullah bin Abbas: The Prophet
salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “If anyone has a female child and does not bury her alive, or slight her, or prefer his children (i.e. the male ones) to her, Allah will bring him into Paradise”. (Sunan Abu Dawood)

The prophet said, “One who has three or two daughters or sisters and accompany them best and fears from god his place is (reserved) in paradise.” (Tirmidhi)

Hadrat Anas reported that the Messenger of Allah
salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, "Whoever brings up two girls till they reach the age of puberty, he and I will come on the Day of Resurrection like this,” (and he joined his blessed fingers.)

The beloved Prophet
salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam has stated that,“When a boy is born, then he brings one Noor (light) and when a girl is born, then she brings two Noors.”

There are many more such narrations mentioned in Hadith and quranic verses for the birth of children.

Many these days go for abortion or take up birth control measures or permanent birth control such as vasectomy and tubectomy. This permanent birth control measures are not given permission unless the woman cannot conceive anymore or will have to risk her life if she conceive again would take help from local ulamas and then decide. But then killing an unborn child for the fear of poverty and family planning and stuff as such is totally not agreeable. Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala has destined each ones provision.

Who are you and I to kill and take their life's!? When Allah

Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala has grant them the life. And also best of woman is the one who gives birth to many children. And increase the progeny of Ummah. Bring them up righteously teach them Deen when they are young. Those seeds will blow into future and will make them soldiers of Islam. And don't differentiate or be partial with your kids. It's really not the practice of any Scholars or sahabas or Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam in Islam. Both are equal. Treat them as one. Treat them with kindness they too have a right and you have to be dutiful towards your kids as they are amanah from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. They are surely born from you. But by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. Don't do anything that will anger Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala or Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam .

May Allah grant us all understanding to know the rights of children and please Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala  by bringing them up righteously.
