104. 3 Ways Our Deeds Are Shown To Allah

By Asma bint Shameem

Deeds are shown to Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala in three ways

1. Twice a day; Every morning and evening

The Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:
“Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, does not sleep and it is not befitting that He should sleep. He lowers the Balance and raises it; the deeds of the night are taken up to Him before the deeds of the day, and the deeds of the day before the deeds of the night…”
(Saheeh Muslim)

2. Twice every week; every Monday and Thursday

The Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:
“People’s deeds are shown [to Allah] twice each week, on Monday and Thursday, and every believing slave is forgiven except a person between whom and his brother there is a dispute, and it is said, ‘Leave these two until they reconcile.’”
(Saheeh Muslim)

3. Once every year; in Sha’baan

Usaamah ibn Zayd radhi Allahu anhu said:
“I said: O Messenger of Allah, I do not see you fasting as much in any month as you fast in Ramadhaan.”

He salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:
“That is a month concerning which the people are heedless, between Rajab and Ramadhaan, but it is a month in which good deeds are taken up to the Lord of the Worlds, and I would like my deeds to be taken up when I am fasting.” (al-Nasaa’i- hasan by al-Albaani in Sahih al-Jaami’)

Thus our deeds are shown to Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala DAILY
WEEKLY
ANNUALLY.

 Ibn al-Qayyim said:
“The deeds of the year are taken up in Sha’baan, as the truthful one (the Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) has told us. The deeds of the week are shown on Monday and Thursday, the deeds of the day are taken up at the end of the day before night comes, and the deeds of the night are taken up at the end of the night, before day comes. When a person’s life comes to an end, all his life’s deeds are taken up and the record of his deeds is closed.”
(Haashiyat Sunan Abi Dawood)

Of course, Allah is WELL AWARE of whatever we do ALL the time. There’s NOTHING that’s hidden from Him. And obviously we are supposed to do good deeds and acts of obedience ALL the time.

But, these ahaadeeth ENCOURAGE us to do more good deeds.
And they REMIND us that we should pay EXTRA attention to our thoughts and actions ESPECIALLY at the times when the deeds are being shown to Allah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala.

This way we can be more CONSCIOUS of Allah at ALL times and REMEMBER that He’s WATCHING, no matter WHERE we are.
And thus, we build TAQWA.

That’s why the Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam LOVED to FAST every Monday and Thursday.

 He said:
“Deeds are shown (to Allah) on Mondays and Thursdays, and I would like my deeds to be shown when I am fasting.” (at-Tirmidhi - saheeh by al-Albaani)

And that’s why Ibn Rajab said:
“One of the Taabi’een used to weep in front of his wife on Thursdays and she would weep in front of him, and he would say:
‘Today our deeds are being shown to Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala.” (Lataa’if al-Ma’aazif)

So try your BEST.
Be conscious of Allah at ALL times.
FILL your days and nights with good deeds.
Fast Mondays and Thursdays.
Make the MOST of this month of Sha’baan.
Then wait for the Mercy of your Rabb.
He will NEVER disappoint you.
