9. A Protective Jealousy

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah radiyallaahu ‘anhu that: the Messenger of Allah salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:
"There is a kind of protective jealousy that Allah loves and a kind that Allah hates. As for that which Allah loves, it is protective jealousy when there are grounds for suspicion. And as for that which He hates, it is protective jealousy when there are no grounds for suspicion." (Sunan Ibn Majah, Book 9, Hadith 2074)

When you love something and hold it dear to your heart, your love for it evokes a desire to take care of it.

If you suspect harm coming to it, you wish to preserve and protect it and so a jealousy is born for the preservation of that which you love.

If this is warranted because what you love is not being cared for or preserved as it should, this is permissible protective jealousy.

May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala allow us to preserve our imaan, our religion and love it so deeply, a protective jealousy keeps it safeguarded and entrusted to us in Shaa’Allah!
