37. Departure For 'Arafat On The 9th Of Dhul-Hijjah

It was Friday, the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah.

After the fajr prayer the Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam waited a little until the sun rose. Then he, along with his companions, set out for 'Arafah. Some of the companions were calling out, "Allahu Akbar" and some were calling, "Labbayk..."

During the pre- Islamic days the 'Quraysh did not go to 'Arafah with other pilgrims but stayed at Muzdalifah, which was within the boundaries of al-Haram. Thus they sought to assert their position and perpetuate their privilege.

They did not doubt that Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam would do the same, but instead he acted according to Allah's instruction and proceeded to 'Arafah along with other pilgrims, halting on the outskirts of the valley of 'Uranah.

A tent has been set up for him at the mirror at Namirah, where he rested until the sun passed the meridian.
