58. Sa'i For The Second Time

Pilgrims  performing tamattu should do Sa'i  between as-Safa and al-Marwah after tawaf al- Ifadhah. This this is the sa'i  for hajj.

Some people mistakenly think that this sa'i is unnecessary and quote the narration of jabir,  who said:
"The Messenger of Allah salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and his companions performed only one sa'i between as-Safa and al-Marwah".

This narration is true for those of his companions who had brought sacrificial animal with them and thus performed the qiran type of hajj as he salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam did.

But those companions who had no sacrificial animals with them remove ihram immediately after performing umrah and did perform sa'i between as- Safa and al-Marwah after Hajj ,as quoted by Abdullah bin Abbas:
"The Muhajireen ,the Ansar, and the family members of Allah's Messenger assumed ihram for the Farewell Pilgrimage. Upon reaching Makkah the Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam ordered that those who had no sacrificial animals with them make it an umrah [and end the state of ihram]. Those with sacrificial animal remained in the state of ihram. On the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah the Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam ordered us to assume the ihram for hajj. After finishing all of the rites of hajj  we went to Makkah and performed tawaaf of tha Ka'bah and sa'i between as-Safa and al-Marwah".

It is clear from the aforementioned hadith that the pilgrims of tamattu must perform sa'i for the second time after tawaf al-ifadah, whereas the pilgrim of qiran and ifrad perform one sa'i only.
