It is preferable to offer the sacrifice on the 10th Dhul-Hijjah
or on the following three days known as ayyam at-'tashreeq.
Thus, there there are considered to be four days of sacrifice.
These are the days of rejoicing, remembering Allah, and meeting with fellow pilgrims.
If a pilgrim does not have sufficient means to sacrifice and animal alone, then he can share the sacrifice of a camel or a cow with six other pilgrims. Such was the practice among the prophet's companions.
