71. Visiting The Prophet's Grave



After offering two raka'hs in the Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam one may proceed to visit the Graves of Allah's messenger salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and his two companions, Abu Bakar and 'Umar.

Standing near the grave of the Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam one should give a salutation such as :



"Assalamu Alaikum Ya Rasool allahi Wa Rahmatullahi Wa barakatuhu."

"Peace  be upon you, O messenger of Allah, and Allah's Mercy and blessings"

Near the grave of Abu Bakar one should say :



" Assalam-o-alaika ya Abu Bakr."

"Peace be upon you,O Abu Bakar "

Near  the grave of Umar one should say:


" Assalam-o-alaika ya Umar ."

"Peace be upon you,O Umar.

It  is not proper for a visitor to the Prophet's mosque to stand before the grave of Allah messenger salallah ‘alayhi wa sallam  crying,  beseeching, supplicating with raised hands or kissing the lattice of the grave. All  such acts are strictly forbidden by the Religion and must be avoided. 

Visiting other graves

While visiting other grave one should recite the following established salutation:



"Assalaamualaikum daara qaumin mumeneena wa inna inshaa Allaaho bekum laaheqoona."

"Peace be upon the muslim people of these dwellings. And we will be joining you soon, In-Shaa-Allah
