After the devotional acts of sacrifice and shaving his head
Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam went to Makkah and performed tawaf al-ifadah [which is also called
tawaf az-ziyarah] while riding.
He did not do ramal or idhtiba in this tawaaf. Tawaaf al- Ifadhah is one of the
essential pillars of hajj, and without its performance,
hajj is not complete.
The Qur'an states:
Summal-yakzuu tafa-sahum wal-yuufuu nuzuurahum wal-tawwafuu bil Baytil-'Atiiq.
" Then let them make an end of their unkemptness and fulfill their vows and circle the Ancient House".
Following the sunnah, tawaaf al- Ifadhah should be performed on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah; if it cannot be done on this day, it should be made on any day during ayyam al- tashreeq or even latter if there is a valid reason.
This concession is applicable particularly to women who have their menses.
